The Science Behind Cage and Toy Wash
Simply put, when bacteria attach to a surface, they become less likely to be killed by
a cleaning agent. This situation often leads to the formation of a nasty little beastie called a
Biofilm, which is even more resistant to cleaning efforts. Plus, it provides a platform for even more bio stuff -
including viruses & molds - to grow.
So what can be done to fix this? You can break down the bacterial attachment by using harsh
chemicals along with a lot of "mechanical activity" (that's science speak for scrubbing every square
inch really, really hard). And it's very tough to do. For example, most toys have too many crevices
and cracks where bacteria can hide.
Instead, you can make it very difficult for bacteria to begin the attachment process in the first place.
And that's what Cage and Toy Wash does. It's like putting a bacterial raincoat on items to resist the
bacterial attachment AND help eliminate any bacteria that may linger on surfaces
when cleaning.
Lab tests were conducted on actual samples of sugar glider urine, feces, fur clippings and an
uber-smelly pouch from a male breeder. As expected, these samples were full of bacteria, mold, and
viruses. But after one application of Cage and Toy Wash, none survived.

Safe for All Pets
Safe for You
Safe for the Earth
You just washed the cage,
nests, food cups, toys, branches, all of it. You let
everything dry, and it smells clean. You put in new bedding.
And as you're about to put the crew back into their habitat, there it
is...that
unmistakable ole suggie smell.
Those lingering odors...
Where does this smell come from? In short, bacterial waste.
But you just cleaned the habitat, right? How could there be bacteria left to produce the odor? The scientific answer is "bacterial
attachment". If you would like more information on this
condition, see The Science Behind Cage and Toy Wash
under the picture on the left.
A New Concept in Cleaning
Cage and Toy Wash is a new concept in cleaning and preventing odor-causing bacterial
growth - it's completely free of fragrance and soap.
The plant extracts contain naturally-occurring surfactants with a subtle foaming action that
don't leave toxic residues after use. It's gentle enough to use for cleaning any surface
in your home, including items in a baby's nursery, child's room and / or pet area.
And there is absolutely no need to rinse after use! It does not lessen the
effectiveness of the cleaner to rinse it off, but is completely
unnecessary.
Just shake well, then dampen a dry cloth with Cage and Toy Wash and rub on surface
to be cleaned, wiping off dirt and grime. Heavily soiled areas
may need more than one application; just let the Wash sit and
dissolve grime for a few minutes, then wipe again. Using a micro-fiber cloth
will allow you to clean more area with less product. No need
to rinse; the Wash remains as a barrier to protect against bacterial
growth.
For best results - and to prevent grime buildup in the first
place - apply
Cage & Toy Shield after using the Wash. This product
produces an environment that allows the cleaner to do its
bacteria protection job better, and creates a slick surface which makes wipe-ups
simple, full cleanings easier, and helps prevent cage corrosion.
The Importance of Starting Clean
"Washing" a new item doesn't make a lot of sense at first, does
it? But here's the thing - using
Cage and Toy Wash as a "pre-treatment" on new products
prevents bacteria from getting a chance to
attach to the items. And regular use of Cage and Toy Wash as your primary cleaning
method will continue to prevent bacterial attachment and control odors
caused by bacterial buildup. So wipe
the product on brand new products before bacteria have a chance to
attach to them (see info on Science at left for the gory details!)
Likewise, if items in your habitat have not had a good scrubbing
for some time, you will need to break the bacterial attachments
first. Give cage or items a good, hard scrub with your old
cleaning method one last time, then clean with Cage and Toy Wash
and you are on your way to a "new kind of clean" in your gliders' area.
From then on, you can use just the
Cage and Toy Wash for all your regular cleanings.
And if you use Cage & Toy Shield
after the Wash, you'll be on your way to faster cleaning sessions, creating a surface that is super easy to wipe
off.
As with all items in our Naturals line, Cage and Toy Wash is biodegradable, 100% non-toxic and sourced from safe,
Plant Extracts (see more on left).
It is harmless to use on any surface inside, or surrounding, your
glider habitat.
The Nail-O-Matic Example
Nail-O-Matic nail trimmer tracks are great for keeping our sugar
gliders' nails smooth. But the tracks are porous, so they absorb odors
from urine, excrement droppings and food splatters.
Bummer. Probably the hardest item in the cage to keep clean
and odor free. So naturally, we used Nail-O-Matic tracks to test
the Wash product!
Day 1: We dampened a dry micro-fiber cloth with Cage and Toy Wash
and applied it to both sides of a brand new Nail-O-Matic
track. After letting it dry, we followed with a light misting
of Cage & Toy Shield. Lastly, we assembled the Nail-O-Matic into a
wodent wheel and then placed it into a male breeder's
cage for a full week with NO in-between wipe-offs.
Day 7: We removed the track for cleaning and inspection.
Because we applied the Shield product, there was only one poop that
even stuck to the track,
which wiped right off with a damp micro-fiber cloth. But best of all, there was NO ODOR on the
Nail-O-Matic! So then we repeated the previous week's routine:
1) Apply Cage and Toy Wash
2) Let it air dry
3) Spray Cage & Toy Shield
We have continued this weekly treatment ever since, and despite being peed and pooped on nightly,
the same Nail-O-Matic still remains odor-free!
Cage and Toy Wash can - and should - be used on cages, toys, food cups, floors, etc.
It is unscented and can be used on every surface your suggies come into contact with, including food and water cups.
Stop those lingering glider odors in their tracks by switching to Cage & Toy Wash - the soapless, no rinse cleaning
method. If you want to also protect those freshly washed surfaces and make wiping up a snap, get the Cage & Toy Wash plus
Cage & Toy Shield pack.
