The term sugar glider is somewhat of a misnomer.  They certainly glide, but they don’t really eat a lot of sweet foods in the wild.  Tree gum is one of their sustenance items in the wild, but I tasted it and it’s not naturally sweet.  However, sugar gliders do have an affinity for sweet foods and when fruits are dehydrated it brings out many of the natural sugar in a very sweet and tasty dessert.

The cantalouple is another one of those super foods.  Not only is cantaloupe fun to say, but it is called a “beauty food” and when Arnold  tried to run away one time with one of his gal pals … she said “no, no Arnold, didn’t you hear Momma Tree just say something today about CANTALOUPE?”

I hope that offering you a variety of sweet and nutritious treats, that many of you will consider cutting back on the use of honey and other high caloric foods in your diet rotation!  Now like any treat item, consider it dessert and follow our vet’s advice to limit all treats to less than 5% of daily diet intake.  Using a variety of treats can also be beneficial as it keeps your sugar gliders interested and helps to stop pickiness.  Each fruit also brings its own nature’s bounty of nutritional vitamins and minerals!

Dehydration helps to maintain a long shelf life for a variety of fruits and veggies (and even  jerky), so they aren’t going to go bad on you any time soon.  Cantaloupe goes by a lot of names including canteloupecantaloupmuskmelonmushmelon, rockmelonsweet melonPersian melonspanspek (South Africa), or garma.

Please remember to limit treats to 5% of total daily food intake.  The moisture content of fruits and veggies seems to be essential to sugar gliders as they tend not to be large water consumers.  Too many dried foods can lead to intestinal discomforts and blockages in the form of constipation.  We do not recommend the use of dehydrated fruits as a substitute for fresh fruits.

Why are our prices cheaper than our competitors?  That’s simple.  We don’t waste a lot of money on fancy packaging.  We use a tamper resistant package with a security strip on the top.  Once you pull off that strip, it’s your basic everyday ziplock bag that you can reclose to preserve freshness.  Do you want to pay for fancy packaging with cute little pictures on the bag, or get the most for your money with all natural and nutritious treats?

Cantaloupe Treats contain natural cantaloupe, sugar, citric acid, sulphur dioxide (may contain pits and/or pit fragments)

Suggested Storage and Shelf Life:   May be refrigerated.  Shelf life is six months (note:  food items that do not contain chemical preservatives cannot claim more than a six month shelf life according to the FDA, so foods that claim higher shelf lives may just be filled with chemicals).
