The nutritional balance required in milk replacement products is different
for marsupials than it is for other mammals. Also, the marsupial milk will go through two
different compositional stages dependent upon the age of the joey in the pouch.

We recommend Wombaroo Possum Milk Replacer Formula >0.8 as a necessary shelf item for anyone
interested in raising baby sugar gliders. This product is designed for sugar glider joeys that have already
emerged from the pouch.
SunCoast Sugar Gliders does not recommend interfering with a healthy female gliders ability
to nurse her young. Removing joeys from the care of their mother at too early an age can create serious health
deficiencies. First of all, immunities are passed from mother to joey via her milk.
This is a difficult natural process to replicate by hand feeding.
Colostrum levels will also drop quickly in babies who are removed too quickly from mother's
nurturing. Hand rearing joeys is a rather hefty topic and one that we will
have available more information on this topic in the very near future.
This product is highly recommended for that purpose, but in our opinion, only when the
mother is unable to feed the joey on her own. If you need exact instructions on this process now, please

We use the milk replacer product more for preventative measures than anything else.
It has
been our experience that dusting a lactating female's fruit or veggie serving with Wombaroo
Possum Milk Replacer helps to keep her vital at a time that could create a drain on her
system. Our
focus is to keep our breeding females healthy, and leave it up to them to keep their
joeys healthy. We've been using milk replacement products
from the very beginning of our breeding
efforts and were thrilled to find a sugar glider specific formula from
the excellent Wombaroo company.
While this product is suitable for a wide range of marsupials, Wombaroo has provided us with a chart
specifically for sugar glider care. We have found that a relatively small amount (1/8 teaspoon) per feeding
dusted on the fruit or vegetable serving has provided excellent
benefits to our lactating females. This product contains recombined milk proteins with fortified
essential amino acids, easily digested carbohydrates, and a mix of milk fat solids
(lipid). The product has been also fortified with extra vitamins and minerals.
Wombaroo milk products come as powders. Milk powder unopened, or stored in
re-sealable airtight
containers, is stable for at least 12 months if stored below 30 degrees C.
Prepared milk may
be stored frozen for up to 2 weeks.
Use this product according to instructions. Over-usage of milk
replacement products could lead
to diarrhea.
